Brother of Halifax man who helped wife killer flee cleared of conspiracy

The brother of a Halifax man who helped a wife killer to flee the country has been been cleared of involvement in a conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Nouman Qureshi, 33, of Kashmir Park, Pellon, is awaiting sentence for his part in helping his cousin Danish Irfan to fly out of the United Kingdom after he had murdered his wife at their Bradford home in November 2013.

Qureshi’s brother Muhammed, 39, of Pembroke Avenue, Luton, Bedfordshire, was one of three men on trial at Bradford Crown Court accused of being part of the conspiracy to help Irfan evade arrest after the killing.

But today (Tuesday) Judge Peter Benson directed that Muhammed Qureshi should be cleared on the conspiracy allegation which he had denied the charge.

Judge Benson ruled that there was insufficient evidence against Muhammed Qureshi and he was was discharged.

Two other men from Ilford in Essex remain on trial accused of involvement in the conspiracy.

Irfan fled Bradford after murdering his wife Ridda Zanab, but he returned to the United Kingdom in 2014 and was convicted of her murder following a trial.

Nouman Qureshi will not be sentenced until the conclusion of the on-going trial.
