Bungling robbers broke into a post office but were foiled when they found the safe was on a time lock and lay in wait for a member of staff to open in the morning.
The two raiders are believed to have forced their way in to Mixenden Post Office in Clough Lane from the back of the building overnight before laying in wait for some time for a member of staff to open at around 7am on Wednesday.
When the staff member opened up he was confronted by the masked men who demanded money. The victim was assaulted but wasn’t seriously injured.
The men fled the scene with only a small quantity of cash after being told the owner could not break the time-lock - and they were not prepared to wait around any longer.
Detective Sergeant Terry O’Keeffe from Calderdale CID said it is unknown how long they lay in waiting. “They waited for the owner to come in because they knew the safe was on a time lock and it was no good trying to force the safe because they had to have the post master there.”
Police tape was still at the scene but the member of staff would not talk the terrifying ordeal. The first of the suspects is described as around 25-years-old. He wore a light grey fleece top and blue jeans. He was of a heavy build and around 5ft 7ins tall. He could possibly have been wearing a balaclava when he fled.
The second was of a similar age and was wearing dark clothing. He was of a slim build and around 5ft 7ins tall. There was a chance he was wearing a balaclava too.
They are believed to have escaped across some fields towards the Brow Bottom Lane area.
Anyone who saw the two men running across the fields or have any idea who was responsible for the robbery should contact police.
