Calderdale's religious leaders offer support after London Bridge terror attack

Representative from religious leaders in Calderdale have offered there condolences to all the people affected by the latest London terrorist attack.

Three men were shot dead after killing seven and injuring 48 more with a van and knife attack in London.

The killings on Saturday night were the second terrorist atrocity to hit the country in as many weeks after 22 were killed at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

In a joint statement from Calderdale Council, Calderdale Interfaith Council and Calderdale Council of Mosques on the terrorist incident in London, they said:

“Calderdale Council, Calderdale Interfaith Council and Calderdale Council of Mosques stand together in condemning the horrific attacks in London on Saturday 3 June.

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with all of the people affected by this tragic incident, and our thanks go out to the Emergency Services for their speedy and courageous response.

“We join communities across the country in sending out a clear message that we will not let these senseless events drive us apart. Once again the support shown by people has been truly heartwarming.

“We must all remain vigilant and report any concerns to the confidential anti-terrorist hotline on 0800 789321. We must also continue to unite at this difficult time.”

A book of condolence has been opened today at Halifax Town Hall for people to pay their respects to the victims and their loved ones.

It will be available to sign until 6pm on Friday June 9. The book of condolence for everyone affected by the atrocity in Manchester just two weeks ago will also remain open until 6pm on Friday June 9.

The Union Flag is flying at half mast at Halifax Town Hall and a minute’s silence will be held across Calderdale tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11am as a mark of respect and support.

The Mayor of Calderdale and representatives from various organisations will gather at Halifax Town Hall for the minute’s silence.
