Elderly Shelf residents targeted by cold callers

Elderly residents in Shelf have been the subject of cold calling incidents after a number of incidents were reported to police.

Officers have received complaints about bogus callers ringing residents saying there has been an increase in crime in the area and offering to call round and give a free security check.

During the telephone conversation people are being asked “do you currently have a burglar alarm?” “Are your doors and windows fitted with the correct locks?”

Police officers are not saying that these companies are bogus, however, we strongly advise that no information of this nature is given out over the phone.

If you live in the Shelf area and would like a crime prevention / security check carrying out on your home, free of charge, please contact PCSO Sarah Conderson on 07921 282199.

For any other areas - please ring 101 or send an e-mail to calderdale.npt@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk.
