Facebook message leads to armed police swooping on village

Armed police swooped on Mytholmroyd after a man posted a potentially inflammatory message on Facebook.

The raid on the address in Sunny Bank happened on Tuesday afternoon and led to a 27-year-old Calderdale man being arrested on suspicion of public order offences. He has since been released without charge.

A police spokesperson said: “At 10.45am on Tuesday, April 1, West Yorkshire Police was made aware of a potentially inflammatory posting on a social media website.

“As a result of police enquiries, a 27-year-old Calderdale man was arrested on suspicion of public order offences.

“He has now been released without charge.”

Villagers were shocked to see armed police at the incident, which saw Midgley Road cordoned off while police carried out the arrest.
