Father cleared in Euro 2012 stabbing trial

A tearful father-of-two walked free from court this afternoon after a jury cleared him of all charges following a disturbance at a house in Hebden Bridge.

Craig Twomey, 39, of Church View, Sowerby Bridge, had been accused of wounding three men in a knife attack, but he told a jury at Bradford Crown Court that he had been punched and kicked after going to the house to borrow some cigarette papers.

The group had been watching the Euro 2012 match between England and Italy before Twomey knocked on the door asking to borrow the papers.

After more than three hours deliberation this afternoon the jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts on all the charges, which included three alternative allegations of unlawful wounding.
