Fire brigade help police arrest two men suspected of stealing defibrillator from paramedics

Firefighters helped police arrest two men suspected of stealing a defibrillator from paramedics after they tried to escape down an embankment.

Police officers gave chase to two men at around 3am this morning (Thursday) in West Vale after reports a life-saving machine had been stolen from paramedics in Halifax.

But the suspects ran down waste land behind a pub on Stainland Road and police couldn’t get down an embankment.

They called the fire brigade and crews from Rastrick Fire Station attended the scene.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Two men have been arrested in connection with the theft of a defibrillator from paramedics in Silver Street, Halifax, during the early hours of this morning.

“Both men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested in the Greetland area a short time after the reported theft, with West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service called to assist in the arrest of one of the men due to access issues.”
