Thomas Watson-McGovern, 21, was found unpresponsive in his cell by prison staff at approximately 6.40 pm.

“Prison staff attempted CPR and paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at 16.55 pm,” said a Ministry of Justice spokeswoman.

“As with all deaths in custody, the Independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.”

Mr Watson-McGovern, of Thornton Street, Halifax, was convicted of robbery at Bradford Crown Court last July. He was jailed for nine years.
