Hebden Bridge drink-drive teen banned for 20 months

A Hebden Bridge teenager involved in an early hours crash in Burnley whilst more than twice the limit has been banned for 20 months.

Burnley magistrates heard Pearce Andrew Bolton had not intended to drive and couldn't explain why he did. He was caught after he hit a car on Brunshaw Road.

Bolton blew 76 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when he was tested. The legal limit is 35.

The 18-year-old had stayed with his vehicle after the collision and waited for the police.

His solicitor, Miss Alison Mafham told the hearing: "He must have known he was over the limit. He could have made good his escape, but he chose not to. He cooperated with the proceedings and made a full admission in interview."

Miss Mafham, who said Bolton worked for his father, added: "He's very remorseful. He didn't intend to go driving that night. He cannot explain why he chose to drive home."

Bolton, of Widdop Road, Hebden Bridge, admitted driving with excess alcohol on June 10th. He was fined £200 and must pay a £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs. The defendant had no previous convictions.
