An Illingworth man who was caught growing 40 cannabis plants in a tent at his home has been made the subject of a 12-month community order.

Police were called to Nicholas Drake’s property in Turner View in April after staff from an electricity firm forced their way into the premises and discovered the tent in a bedroom.

Prosecutor Chris Smith told Bradford Crown Court that officers found 40 plants, which could have produced skunk cannabis worth more than £7,000, growing in the tent and the electricity meter in the house had also been by-passed.

Drake, 36, had been using cannabis for many years and he told police that he had been growing it for himself.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of producing cannabis and was made the subject of a community order which includes 200 hours unpaid work for the community.
