Investment in combatting domestic abuse

Calderdale Council has committed itself to tackling domestic abuse with investment into services tackling the issue.

At the full council meeting, councillors voted unanimously in implementing a domestic abuse strategic framework.

Approval was also given of the Transformation Challenge Grant award of £335,000 from the Department of Communities and Local Government to be invested in the transformation of domestic abuse services across Calderdale.

The council has been working with key partners through the Health and Wellbeing board to develop the proposed framework which sets out a vision, principles and objectives to help the council and key partners tackle domestic abuse.

Cabinet member for Communities Councillor Marcus Thompson said: “It affects our neighbours, our friends, people responsible for others and people who we think we know but we don’t.”

The leader of Calderdale Council, Coun Stephen Baines said: “This is another good example of our work in Calderdale Council and parties working together.

“I do hope good work on this issue can continue and make Calderdale a better place and help people to keep safe from this type of crime.”
