Jimmy Savile hospital probe delayed

The investigation into claims of sexual abuse at Royal Halifax Infirmary by disgraced presenter Jimmy Savile has been delayed.

The Crown Prosecution Service has asked for the probe into Savile’s activities within the NHS to be postponed until other legal proceedings are complete.

The NHS Legacy Unit, which provides oversight of NHS investigations into alleged abuse by Savile on health premises, has passed on information from victims and the Metropolitan Police to the region’s NHS trusts.

There will also be further delays to the publication of investigations into alleged abuse by Savile in children’s homes and schools, which are overseen by the Department for Education.

The Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt has told MPs that the public we be informed when more is known.
