Two women went for an evening jog in Halifax only to return to their car and find thieves had smashed their way in and stolen two handbags.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident which happened on Thursday, September 4, when thieves broke into a white Audi A1 parked at Ogden Water Reservoir, Halifax.

The female owner of the vehicle and her friend had gone jogging just after 7pm and left their handbags in the boot.

When they returned they found one of the car windows had been smashed and the handbags gone.

Detective Sergeant Ross Wadsworth, from Calderdale CID, said: “This was an opportunist theft that has cost the owner of the car and her friend a significant amount of inconvenience and money. Sentimental items that can’t be replaced were in the bags that were stolen.

“There were a number of other cars in the car park at the time. We are particularly appealing to anyone who may have seen a white Volkswagen Golf in the area at the time to come forward.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Serg Woods at Calderdale CID via 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
