A judge has ordered a psychiatric report on a 27-year-old Halifax man who robbed a teenage girl of her handbag.

Mohammed Qadeer, of St Paul’s Road, Halifax, is currently remanded in custody and had been due to be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court.

But Judge Mark Savill told Qadeer that his case was being adjourned to allow time for him to be seen by a psychiatrist.

Qadeer has already admitted taking the bag and its contents from the 14-year-old complainant during an incident in August.

His solicitor/advocate Nigel Jamieson told the court that Qadeer himself wanted the case dealt with sooner rather than later, but Judge Savill said he wanted a psychiatric report which would consider the danger posed by the defendant.

“Can I immediately say that I understand you came here today wanting to be dealt with,” the judge told Qadeer.

“I fully appreciate you will be disappointed that you don’t know your fate today.”

The judge said he needed every piece of information before him before he could pass an appropriate and just sentence and a psychiatrist would therefore visit Qadeer in prison and prepare a report about him for the court.

Qadeer is expected to be sentenced on November 23.
