Male arrested as police strike blow in fight against Harrogate burglaries

Officers had warned this week that there had been a recent surge of burglaries across the Harrogate district, with 91 homes broken into since April.

A further two burglaries were reported to police on Thursday, October 8, both from ‘insecure properties’ within the Harrogate district.

However, with proactive work continuing, police have confirmed that one male has now been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Inspector Penny Taylor from North Yorkshire Police has warned property such as jewellery has been commonly stolen during the break-ins.

She is appealing for information over where the jewellery is being disposed as well as urging residents to increase their home security.

She said: “Quite a few burglaries have been from forced entry during the day. We are appealing to the public to be aware of suspicious people hanging around properties.

“Can I appeal to members of the public to ensure that their house is secured, even when they are at home they should lock the door.”

Inspector Morgan also urged residents to look after their neighbour’s property whilst they were away.

Staff from the Community Safety Partnership Police and Neighbourhood Watch will be carrying out Stop Burglary campaigns in the Harrogate district with dates to be announced.
