A man charged with the murder of a known sex offender has refused to appear in court for the second time.

David Anthony Mitchell is accused of killing 46-year-old Robert Edward Hind, who went missing from Dewsbury last week.

He was due to appear at Leeds Crown Court yesterday but would not leave his cell at Armley Prison.

The 46-year-old, of Manchester Road, Cowlersley, Huddersfield, earlier refused to appear before Huddersfield magistrates.

Yesterday’s hearing took place before the Recorder of Leeds Peter Collier QC in his absence. There was no application for bail.

Mitchell is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on January 10.

He is said to have murdered Mr Hind at Manchester Road in Cowlersley, on December 11.

A post mortem found Mr Hind had died from strangulation and head injuries.
