A man has appeared before court charged with posing as a parrot seller to con a Halifax customer out of £5,000.

Kevin John Alexander, 27, is accused of posting an internet advert for two Hyacinth Macaws worth £16,000.

His alleged victim, Jack Hutchinson, is said to have paid a £5,000 deposit for the birds, which he never received.

Alexander, of Ramshead Heights in Seacroft, Leeds, denies committing fraud between May 1 and 24.

Calderdale magistrates bailed him until November 24, when he will appear back at the court.
