Man admits raping teen in alleyway

A 29-year-old man has admitted raping a teenager in an alley.

The 18-year-old girl was attacked by Paul Lupton in November after she left her friends in a takeaway to go to the toilet near to The Warehouse nightclub on Zetland Street, Huddersfield

Lupton was arrested in Commercial Street, Halifax, during an investigation by the West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and has pleaded guilty in court to the rape.

Judge John Potter said he would require a pre-sentence report on Lupton by the probation service and an assessment would have to be made about whether he should be sentenced as a dangerous offender.

Lupton, of Apsley Crescent, Bradford, who was wearing a grey sweatshirt and black jogging bottoms, was remanded back into custody to await his sentence on May 19.

Judge Potter told him he would be receiving a substantial custodial sentence for the offence.
