Man dies after being hit by a lorry

Police were called to Whitehall Road at around 11am to reports of a male being involved in collision with a lorry.

Officers arrived on the scene but the male, who is believed to be in his 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics.

The road between Chain Bar and Westfield Lane was cordoned off and closed for a number of hours before reopening at 2.45pm.

The coroner has been notified.
