Man faces jail term for pool cue attack

AN Elland man is facing a possible prison sentence after he admitted hitting another man over the head with a pool cue.

Craig Joyce’s victim Geoffrey Pell suffered a cut to the back of his head during the attack which happened on September 17 last year.

Joyce, 38, of Scarborough Terrace, Elland, appeared before a judge at Bradford Crown Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Pell with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.

The court heard that Joyce had no previous convictions for violence.

His lawyer accepted that the case crossed the custody threshold.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC told Joyce that he would get full credit for his guilty plea at the earliest opportunity, but he pointed out that the guidelines for such cases indicated a custodial sentence.
