The incident happened after a red Volkswagen Golf collided with a blue Vauxhall Zafira on Smiddles Lane at the junction with Manchester Road and Mayo Avenue at around 11.30pm on Friday, April 18. Only minor damage was caused to the Zafira, which was stationary at traffic lights at the time.

However, a verbal altercation has taken place outside the vehicles between the driver of the Golf and a passenger in the Zafira. The driver of the Golf then punched the Zafira passenger causing him to fall backwards and hit his head. The Golf driver has then returned to his vehicle and driven off in the direction of Mayo Avenue and the M606.
