Man stole drink from Tesco to help him sleep

AN ALCOHOLIC who stole red wine and cider has appeared before Calderdale Magistrates’ Court.

Simon Scott Thompson, 30, of Union Street South, Brussells Court, Halifax, admitted theft.

He was given a community order with a drug rehabilitation requirement for six months and was ordered to pay £85 costs.

Lisa Beadle, prosecuting, said Thompson was caught outside Tesco, Market Street, Halifax, on March 27, with the bottles.

He told police he was an alcoholic and took the drink to help him sleep.

Maggie Cavanagh, for Thompson, said: “There have been multi substance abuse issues in the past.”
