Masked gang assault couple during terrifying house burglary in Brighouse

Four masked men physically assaulted and injured a couple during an aggravated burglary at a Brighouse house.

The incident happened at around 8pm yesterday evening at a house on Cannon Hall Close.

One of the victims, a woman aged 63, opened the back door to feed her cat in garden, when four suspects with their faces covered pushed past the woman and forced their way into the property.

They shouted repeatedly at the woman, and demanded to know where she kept money or valuables in the house.

A second victim, a man aged 69, was upstairs when he heard the noise, and went downstairs and confronted the suspects.

Both victims were then led into the living room and physically assaulted

The suspects then made off from the scene with a small quantity of cash.

Both victims sustained minor injuries in the incident.

Detective Inspector Gary Stephenson, of Calderdale CID, said: “This was an incredibly distressing incident for both victims and we are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace those responsible.

“I would appeal for anyone with information to contact police. We would particularly like to hear from anyone who saw four people acting suspiciously or driving in the area at speed in the area yesterday evening.”
