The recording from a first floor corridor at Weavers Brook in Cumberland Close, Halifax, showed the teenager standing at the doorway of her flat before 23-year-old Miss Gibson comes out and “goes for” for him.

Her partner Aaron McIntosh could be seen trying to take hold of Miss Gibson, but as a scuffle breaks out the boy is alleged to have pulled out a kitchen knife and stabbed her in the chest.

Prosecutor Nicholas Campbell QC said the stabbing took place in “a dynamic situation” and it appeared that neither Paige Gibson nor Aaron McIntosh were aware at the time that such a serious wound had been inflicted.

In the footage Miss Gibson could be seen standing for a few moments before collapsing to the floor.

Mr McIntosh tried banging on another flat door to try to raise the alarm before he was captured on the footage carrying his injured partner in his arms down the corridor and towards a landing were she were efforts were later made to save her life.

The prosecution has alleged that the stabbing was the result of a row after Miss Gibson agreed to sell some items for the teenager and a friend so they could buy drugs.

Mr Campbell told Bradford Crown Court that in the lead up to the stabbing the 16-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had repeatedly visited Miss Gibson’s flat to try and get his money or property.

He told the jury that they would hear evidence about the teenager going back into the flat below and telling a woman:”Give me a knife. I need a knife. I’m gonna stab that bitch.”

Mr Campbell said the distressed boy later returned to the flat and told his friends that he had stabbed Paige and they should get an ambulance.

While attempts were being made to help Miss Gibson the teenager apologised to Mr McIntosh and said he hadn’t meant to do it.

The teenager has denied the murder charge, but Mr Campbell said the defendant did accept that he had stabbed Miss Gibson.

The court heard that during the incident Miss Gibson had suffered a small cut to her left cheek as well as the knife wound to the middle of her chest which had resulted in catastrophic blood loss.

Mr Campbell explained to the jury that they had to be sure that the teenager had acted unlawfully and was not acting in self defence.

“It is not necessary for the prosecution to prove that he had an intention to kill Paige Gibson,” he said.

“To be guilty of murder (he) must have intended to cause, at least, really serious harm to Paige Gibson,” said Mr Campbell.

But he said the defence also raised the issue that an “abnormality” of the teenager’s mental functioning meant his responsibility for his actions was substantially diminished.

The trial continues.
