New in-car technology rolled out by West Yorkshire Police

Police in West Yorkshire will be able to deal with incidents more quickly when they’re out on the road, thanks to a new high-tech computer system that will let them access vital police systems from their vehicles.

Over the next few weeks hundreds of Levono “Thinkpad Twist” laptops will be fitted to cars across the county.

Previously officers had to travel back to base to file incidents and crimes, using up hours of valuable time.

The new touch-screen computers will allow statements and reports to be completed at the scene.

600 will be operational by the end of December 2013 and by the middle of 2014 it’s planned that 1000 officers on foot will get mobile Android-based devices that will give them the same access, but from a hand-held unit.
