Passenger train crashes into concrete block

British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for information after a passenger service struck a large concrete block placed on the running rails near Beacon Hill tunnel in Halifax on Wednesday, May 14 at around 7.25pm.

PC Dan Worthington from British Transport Police said: “The train involved, the 17.43pm Manchester Victoria to York service struck the block but luckily no-one on board was injured and there was no damage caused to the train itself.

“This could have been a whole different story however the train which was travelling at speed could have quite easily have derailed and the consequences would have been horrific”

Following the incident, enquiries were made and an area search was carried out by officers but to no avail.

PC Worthington added: “I cannot emphasise enough the dangers associated with this type of crime. Not only is it reckless behaviour by those responsible, but they put lives on the line.

“It is completely unacceptable and I would urge anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who has any information about the incident, to contact police.”
