Police appeal: Pensioner gives chase to assailant after daylight robbery in Halifax

Police have issued a witness appeal following the robbery which happened in broad daylight near St Alban’s Road, Skircoat Green, on Wednesday.

As the 93-year-old woman was walking along residential ginnels behind Skircoat Green Road at around 10am she was approached by an unknown man who grabbed and twisted her arm from behind and took a purse from her hand.

The victim ran after her assailant, but he went out of sight at the junction of St Alban’s Road.

The suspect is described as being approximately 6ft tall, and of slim build.

The victim suffered no serious injuries but was left in shock.

Detective Constable Eileen Walsh, of Calderdale CID, said: “This crime of opportunity targeted a vulnerable member of the community in broad daylight .

“The victim of this robbery was incredibly brave in trying to follow the assailant as he made off.

“I am sure that someone will have seen something around the time of the incident and would urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Det Cons Walsh said enquiries are ongoing.

Det Cons Walsh said anyone who was in the area around 10am on Wednesday morning who saw someone acting suspiciously or who saw a male running from the alleyway either on the Dryclough Lane side or Godfrey Road side should contact her directly at Calderdale CID via 101.
