Police are prepared for busy weekend

The big derby clash will kick off at noon, after many Remembrance services in the town centre including a parade by veterans from Halifax’s twin city Aachen in Germany.

Calderdale District Commander, Chief Superintendent Williams, said arrangements have been made with extra officers being drafted in.

“We are working closely with Halifax Town FC ahead of Sunday’s game to ensure we have an appropriate police presence in place.

“Whatever the result on the day, having a televised FA Cup game at The Shay is a significant event for the local community and we hope that those attending the ground or watching the game elsewhere will enter in to the spirit of celebration.

“It is worth noting that it is also Remembrance Sunday and we will have extra officers working across the district supporting the many parades and wreath laying events taking place.

“We hope people will be mindful of the significance of the day and whatever they are doing will do so safely and with consideration for others.”

Tickets for the game will be on sale from the Shay ticket office between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.

Sunday’s game is not all ticket for Halifax supporters and fans can still pay on the day of the game. Over 3,000 Bradford City fans have snapped up tickets for the tie.

Tickets are priced at £17 for adults, £5 for under 16s and £13 for concessions.

All fans are advised to arrive early on the day of the game.

Town chairman David Bosomworth said the decision to start selling tickets this week was to ease the pressure on the club and ensure some fans could guarantee their place in advance.

He said: “We always said it wouldn’t be all ticket for the home fans but what we’ve recognised is that fans want some certainty that they’re going to get in to see the game.

“It’s not as simple as rolling out a load of tickets.”

“It’s the man power to sell them if 2,000 or 3,000 people suddenly turn up.

“We wanted to make it easy for the Halifax fans but likewise, some want some certainty.

“It won’t be all ticket but we’ll sell tickets for the A, B and C blocks and then E, F and G as cash but if all the tickets go we’ll feed it down the stand and leave whatever’s left for a cash purchase on Sunday.”

Mr Bosomworth also said there will be a significant police operation both inside and outside the ground on the day.

He added: “There’s a full police presence, inside the ground as well. Just like any game that would take place at Elland Road, the John Smith’s Stadium or Valley Parade.”
