Police arrested a man for being drunk and disorderly following reports he was brandishing a knife in a coffee shop in Shipley yesterday.(Tue)

It was not connected with an earlier incident at a nearby Asda supermarket where a woman killed herself by stabbing herself in the neck in front of horrified customers and staff.

Police are appealing for information about the woman who was Asian and aged between 20 and 40.

Later, officers attended Costa Coffee on Market Street following reports that a man had a knife and was shouting at staff and customers.

He was arrested and handcuffed by officers who discovered he had been, in fact, holding a long kitchen lighter.

Inspector Hugh Robinson from Shipley NPT, said: “Even though a number of customers and staff were shaken up, fortunately no-one was injured.”
