A DRUGS gang from Calderdale have been ordered to pay back £180,000 that they made from crime.
Mastermind of the operation Paul Buchan, 38, of Ingwood Parade, West Vale - who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for drugs trafficking - was told he must hand over £141,680, at Bradford Crown Court.
Carl Mullen, 46, of Thorne Street, Holywell Green, was ordered to pay £22,840; Peter Buchan, 32, of Dudwell Lane, Salterhebble, Halifax must pay £8,531; Gary Barker, 40 of Spring Grove, Liversedge, was told to hand over £9,000 and Mark Brooks, 31, of Ashfield Drive, Ovenden, Halifax, must pay £400.
The men were jailed in March 2010 after pleading guilty to a drugs plot which saw thousands of pounds worth of Class A drugs being supplied on the streets of Calderdale.
All were living luxurious lifestyles as a result of the profits made by their criminal activity and the men now have 28 days, with the exception of Barker who has six months, to pay back their assets or face an extended jail term.
David Charity, West Yorkshire Police’s financiali investigation manager, said: “These men made enormous profits as a result of their drug dealings and now we have stripped them of their assets.
“Once again, we can send out a clear message to criminals and reassure the public that there is no hiding place if you are profiting from the proceeds of crime.”
Police are urging anyone with information about people living off the proceeds in crime to get in touch.
