Police hunt man who tried to abduct 12-year-old girl in Mirfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl in Mirfield.

Kirklees CID would like speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place at around 8.20pm in Greenside Road on Saturday, April 12.

It happened when a car pulled up alongside the girl and the driver asked her for the directions. He is then reported to have asked her to get in the car and grabbed at her arm. She pushed him away and ran off.

The driver is described as an Asian male in his 30’s or 40’s. He has short hair cropped on the sides and a short black beard and side burns. The vehicle is described as a grey or dark silver five door hatch back.

Detective Sergeant Neil King, of Kirklees CID, said: “We have been conducting extensive enquiries into this incident including an information seek in the local area, and are appealing for information.

“This remains an isolated report and I would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this incident or have any information which may assist us.

“I want to reassure residents that NPT patrols have been stepped up in this part of Mirfield and we are doing all we can to investigate to determine the full circumstances of what took place.”
