Police release name of Halifax pub fire victim

Detectives have confirmed the vicitm of a fatal fire at a pub on Rochdale Road in the early hours of Wednesday morning is Andrew McGow from Halifax.

The 50-year-old man, caught up in the fire at the Wellington Inn, Pye Nest, was being treated at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield but died overnight

The 31-year-old local man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent yesterday has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody.

Fire crews from Halifax, Illingworth and Elland were called to the Wellington Inn at 2.21am yesterday.

Police closed the road to allow crews to battle the fire which destroyed the downstairs of the pub.
