Police are trying to trace the owner of a dog after a two-year-old boy was bitten in Cross Flatts Park in Beeston.

The incident happened at about 5.30pm on Friday (April 18) while the boy was in the Cross Flatts Park with his parents.

The dog was being walked on a lead by its owner when the child attempted to pet it and was bitten on the head.

Sergeant Jon Arrowsuch, of the Inner South Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The injuries to the child were luckily minor and he was treated and released from hospital the same evening. Unfortunately the man with the dog left the park prior to the arrival of police officers and we are keen to trace him to speak to him about the incident.”

The dog owner was described as a white male, about 6 ft tall, of fat build, with cropped fair hair. He was wearing a blue and yellow polo shirt and jeans.

The dog involved was believed to be a mastiff type similar to the one pictured.

The dog’s owner or anyone who knows his identity is asked to contact PC Simon Shillito of the Inner South NPT via 101.
