Police working to solve mystery of human skull

Police are working to discover the identity of a human skull that was found in Wheatley yesterday morning (Monday).

The remains were found on land off Hebble Lane and specialist teams were sent to examine the site, but failed to find any other body parts.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Nick Wallen said it could be a number of weeks before police determined the identity of the skull and how it came to be in the field.

“We have completed our forensic examination of the area off Hebble Lane and that scene has been closed down,” he said.

“Our work is now on establishing the identity of the skull and how it came to be at the location. That work is ongoing with anthropological experts and is expected to take a number of weeks.”
