A TEENAGER has appeared in court accused of raping a 17-year-old girl.
Josh McDonagh, 18, of Mile Cross Road, Hopwood Lane, Halifax, wept in court and the case had to be halted as he punched the walls of the dock.
McDonagh faces two charges relating to an alleged sex assault in People’s Park, Halifax, on Monday.
He also faces a third charge of carrying a blade when police arrested him.
Prosecutor Marina Hunter-Gray presented details of the alleged offending to Calderdale magistrates.
It was then that McDonagh broke down.
Chairman of the magistrates John Bassinder ordered a 10-minute break after shouts from McDonagh.
The accused’s family were in court and tried to comfort him before he was taken to the cells.
No pleas were entered to the charges and McDonagh spoke only to confirm his name, age and address.
The case was committed to Bradford Crown Court next Wednesday.
