Road safety ‘a priority’ for police says chief

Improving road safety and understanding cybercrime are two areas the police will prioritise over the next five years, according to Mark Burns-Williamson.

The issues rank highly in the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Comissioner’s refreshed Police and Crime Plan for 2013to 2018.

Also in the plan are new commitments around crime prevention and reducing reoffending and the impact that welfare reforms may have on crime and community safety in West Yorkshire.

Mr Burns-Williamson said: “The plan sets out a strategic vision for policing and community safety across West Yorkshire, working more closely together to prevent and tackle crime in our county.

“It has been produced in partnership with local partners including West Yorkshire Police and continues to have at the heart of the plan the shared vision of working together to make sure all our communities are safer and feel safer.”

More is also being done to work in partnership to tackle individuals and gangs involved in serious and organised crime - including child sexual exploitation - and getting back ill-gotten gains from criminals.

However, many priorities remain the same, such as reducing burglary, safeguarding people against serious and violent crime, supporting victims and witnesses and better tackling anti-social behaviour.
