A MAN has been sentenced to five months in prison for assaulting his partner.
Steven Horsfall, 19, from Ovenden, Halifax, had been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of common assault.
Bradford Crown Court heard Horsfall returned to his girlfriend’s house after going out drinking at around 4.30am on November 1.
He fell asleep on the sofa and was woken by his partner at around three hours later.
An argument broke out and Horsfall went upstairs followed by his girlfriend.
The argument continued and Horsfall pushed her on to the bed and then slapped her in the face causing swelling and bruising. Judge John Potter said: “Domestic violence is an extremely serious matter and it is quite right that people who behave like you did will receive immediate custodial sentences.
“It is made worse by your previous convictions. You were well used to using violence which makes this act of violence worse.”
