Both drivers were reported for the offences.

Chief Inspector Lisa Kirkland, Head of West Yorkshire Police's Roads Policing Unit, said: "During this pandemic we are seeing that the road are quieter, there's 70 per cent less traffic on the roads

"However what we are also finding is people are committing speeding offences.

"What we know is speeding causes accidents and it's one of the major reasons that people are killed on our roads.

"What I don't want to happen is that one of your loved one loses you or you end up killing someone else on the road.

"The other impacts of speed is that you can lose your licence. You can also gain points on your license which means, insurance will go up.

"One of the main things that we find at this moment in time is if you have an accident in the road what you're taking away is vital services that are needed to deal with covid 19.

"So you've got the emergency services that are having to attend road accidents that are already stretched to capacity.

"If you end up in hospital or somebody else ends up in hospital whats also is happening is the vital services that are already under so much demand having to give up a critical bed that could be used for somebody that is suffering from covid19.

"It's really simple and easy is this, don't speed, theres=is no ifs no buts, speeding does kill. I've got my officers out on patrol in marked and unmarked vehicles, looking for people that are speeding and they will enforce speeding

"What we've also got is cameras out, what I've heard is people think that cameras aren't being used or activated. They are being because we have a responsibility to protect you to protect the NHS and make sure you're safe on the roads.

"I know that public perception can be a little mixed about speeding but it's really important now that you do keep to the speed limit and you do drive very carefully to protect the NHS and prevent any accidents from happening on the road.

"So my plea to you is there's less traffic on the road, which means your journey to work, your essential journey to the supermarket should be less stressful and you shouldn't be coming across as much congestion so they should be taking less time.

"Enjoy them journeys,. Keep an eye on your speedometer and please do not speed. It's not worth it. "
