A speedster was caught driving double the speed limit outside a school in Calderdale.

Speed checks were conducted on Moor Bottom Road in Illingworth to see if drivers were sticking to the 20mph speed limit outside The North Halifax Grammar School.

In total 73 drivers were clocked on the speed gun with an average speed of 25mph being recorded. More than 40 drivers were above the 20mph speed limit with one driver recorded at a speed of 42mph.

The checks were carried out by Community Wardens and were accompanied by Whitehill Community Academy Junior Wardens.

The junior wardens were in plain sight of all drivers and gave a thumbs up to those who drove within the speed limit and a thumbs down to those who didn’t.
