POLICE patrols are being stepped up at an industrial estate being hit by metal thieves.
Hundreds of pounds worth of scrap metal is being taken from garages and factory units at the site on Armitage Road, Brighouse.
Officers say some thieves are just walking onto the site and taking equipment which has been left lying around.
In a bid to catch the culprits, the Lower Valley neighbourhood policing team is carrying out high visibility patrols around the industrial estate and visiting businesses.
Inspector Mohammed Nawaz, who leads the team, said: “Officers will be giving workers advice on how to keep thieves at bay.
“We will provide information on how to build closer links with local officers and offer advice to workers on how to increase security around their premises.
“In many of the incidents, thieves have simply walked into the premises and walked back out with hundreds of pounds worth of equipment left lying around.
“Increasing our patrols will give my officers the opportunity to strengthen their relationships with local people, help build a better understanding of local issues, and help us to tackle those issues immediately.
“The extra patrols are also a good opportunity for workers to meet their local officers’ face-to-face and tell them more about what matters most in their area.”
Anyone with information about the thefts should call the team via 0845 6060606 or CrimeStoppers, where information can be passed on anonymously, on 0800 555111.
