Taxi driver racially abused in Leeds - police issue image of man they want to speak to

Officers have released an image of a man they believe can help with their enquiries into the incident, which took place at 11pm on Saturday, May 24 May, outside the front of the station.

PC Carl Johnstone, the investigating officer, said: “A man and woman got into a taxi outside the station, requesting to be taken to Normanton. When asked by the driver, a 21-year-old man from the Harehills area, for payment up front, the man became abusive. When the driver asked the couple to leave, the man got out of the car and racially-abused the driver, then kicked the car door, leaving a large dent.

“The man later got a taxi from the back of the station and was taken to Ashgap Lane in Normanton. We have undertaken house-to-house visits in this area and made other enquiries in an attempt to identify the man pictured but to no avail.

“This was unacceptable and offensive behaviour towards a man who was simply trying to do his job. We will not tolerate it and we will always seek to trace and convict anyone who engages in any form of racial abuse.”
