Teen raided couple’s home at night

Nathan Moon, 18, who has no previous convictions, was one of a group of youngsters who got into the house in Oxford Road, Halifax, last July and stole various items from the property.

Moon, of Sherburn Road, Rastrick, was linked to early hours burglary after police inquiries uncovered CCTV footage of him at a shop where someone else was selling on a number of stolen computer games.

Bradford Crown Court heard today (Friday) that the householders were both asleep in bed at the time of the raid and it was only discovered when one of them came downstairs for a drink at about 2am.

Moon admitted his involvement to the police and he pleaded guilty to the burglary charge last November.

He told officers that he had only gone into the kitchen and lounge area of the house, but others in the group had gone upstairs to steal things.

Today Judge John Potter said Moon’s behaviour was nothing short of disgraceful and he should be thoroughly ashamed of himself.

The judge said Moon had shown disrepect for his elders and said the burglary had no doubt been traumatic for the victims.

But Judge Potter said he had taken account of a comprehensive report about Moon and he indicated that the teenager’s guilty plea and previous good character saved him from going into custody immediately.

Moon was given an eight-month sentence of custody in a young offenders institution suspended for a year, but he will also have to do 150 hours unpaid work for the community.
