A teenager has been cleared of raping a 17-year-old student in People’s Park, Halifax.

Joshua McDonagh, 18, of Mile Cross Road, Hopwood Lane, Halifax, had denied two allegations of rape.

McDonagh had pleaded guilty to possessing a kitchen knife.

Judge Peter Benson was told that the teenager had been remanded in custody for 164 days since his arrest in April.

Although the judge sentenced McDonagh to a 28-day custodial sentence for having the knife he indicated that the teenager would be released immediately in view of the time he had already spent on remand for all the offences.

Judge Benson thanked the jury for their role in the rape trial saying:’’You’ve obviously given this case a great deal of care and attention.”
