Police are looking for thieves who broke into an elderly woman’s home in Keighley, stole a laptop and watch and then set the house on fire.

The burglary happened between 1am and 3.30am yesterday on Harewood Crescent.

Before leaving, they set the front room on fire, causing extensive fire and smoke damage.

Detective Inspector Neil Benstead said: “Fortunately, the 70-year-old woman of the house was not at home when the crimes were committed.

“If she had, we could well have been dealing with an extremely serious incident.

“I am therefore appealing for anyone with any information on the people who committed this crime, or have information on the stolen property, to contact Detective Constable Paul Maxwell at the Airedale and North Bradford CID via 101, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
