Todmorden comes out best for car crime

Todmorden is the safest area in the whole of West Yorkshire when it comes to car crime.

According to new figures compiled by motoring consumer website honestjohn.co.uk, which has looked into crime figures of every police force around the country, the town – which is home to 15,000 people – recorded 55 offences of car crime per 10,000 cars between 2011 and 2012.

The worst area for car crime in the region is central Bradford with 2,137 incidents of car crime recorded for every 10,000 cars.

Nationally, the city of Bradford came out second worst for rates of car crime behind Manchester which topped the list, while Leeds came out fourth recording 1,738 incidents per 10,000 cars.

In Calderdale, the HX1 postcode came out worst with 376 offences per 10,000 vehicles, followed by HX3 (193), HX2 (192), HX5 (169), HX6 (167), HX7 (110), and HX4 (107).

The Queensbury BD13 postcode recorded 208 offences per 10,000 vehicles, and for Brighouse – HD6 - there were 119.

Offences ranged from theft from, criminal damage, theft of, and interfering with.
