UPDATED: Police appeal for witnesses to double shooting in Leeds

Homicide detectives, forensic investigators, and Neighbourhood Policing Officers are all working in the Wortley as police continue to probe the double shooting in Blue Hill Crescent, Wortley, Leeds, which took place on Friday evening (November 8).

A post mortem was conducted yesterday afternoon to confirm the cause of death of the 21-year-old victim who detectives can now confirm was a Polish national living in Leeds.

Another man, aged 31, remains in hospital in a stable condition as he receives treatment for serious injuries to his lower body, caused by gunshot wounds.

Wide ranging enquiries are ongoing by officers into the incident which police have stressed is very unusual for the Wortley area.

Police were called to Blue Hill Crescent at about 5.30pm on Friday after reports were received of two men having suffered serious injuries consistent with a firearms discharge. Detectives believe the incident took place inside the address after suspects arrived outside and entered.

Both victims were taken to hospital however the 21 year old man died a short time later.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Simon Beldon said: “The investigation of this murder is a top priority for West Yorkshire Police and I want to reassure residents that all necessary resources are being deployed to locate those responsible.

“We are working to build up a picture of what took place and are conducting a wide range of specialist enquiries including a painstaking forensic search of the murder scene.”

He added: “The investigation remains in its early stages but we do wish to stress again we believe this was targeted and not a random attack.

“Incidents of this sort are very unusual for the Wortley area and we have a number of reassurance patrols ongoing by Neighbourhood Policing Officers.

“I continue to appeal for witnesses. Did you see unusual behaviour inside or outside the house shortly before 5.30pm or any vehicles parked up which you have not noticed before?
