UPDATED: Wanted man found in Staffordshire

As a result of enquiries conducted today, West Yorkshire Police have confirmed a man admitted to hospital in Staffordshire last night is Shakeil Shazad.

The 33-year-old was found in a confused state on a road between Lichfield and Rugeley by police officers yesterday afternoon (11/09) and was later admitted to a hospital in Staffordshire at about 5pm.

At the time he was unable to provide his personal details, but as a result of follow up enquiries, officers confirmed his identity through a finger print test.

He is now being guarded by West Yorkshire officers who have been working with colleagues in Derbyshire.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Lisa Griffin, said: “We have now confirmed through finger print checks that a man taken to hospital yesterday evening is Shakeil Shazad and he remains under guard by West Yorkshire Police detectives.

“He will be now be fully assessed for his physical and mental health. Arrangements will also be made to return him to custody in due course.

“I hope that the swift recapture will bring some comfort to the Chisti family and I want to thank members of the media for their assistance in publicising our efforts to find him and also colleagues in Derbyshire and Staffordshire police .

He was sentenced to 18 years imprisonment at Leeds Crown Court on July 30 2003 for manslaughter following the Birkby House Fire of 2002 which saw the deaths of three generations of a Huddersfield family.

He was released from HMP Sudbury on a work license yesterday (11/09) and did not return.
