Devastated shop owners are counting the cost after their business was ransacked.
Proms and Pearls on Carr House Road, Shelf, had all its prom and evening dresses taken on Thursday night at 11.30pm.
Cathy Beaumont, who runs the business with her friend Michelle Williams, said it was the second time in 18 months that the shop had been hit by thieves.
She said that residents in the apartment above the shop heard a lot of noise as the thieves smashed the window and the internal door with a shovel.
“I’m absolutely sickened by what has happened, it’s just so unexpected,” Cathy, 55, said.
“We were really looking forward to today, to get into the swing of things on Black Friday we had announced we were going to give 10% to customers.
“It’s got a bit of a different meaning now though.
“But what goes around comes around, you can’t get away with doing things like that.
“It’s going to have a massive impact on the business, we work hard and we’re building the business up - it’s just wrong.
“Shelf is small, but our neighbours were lovely and offered to help clear up and make us cups of tea, they were really supportive.
“It’s not nice for people to see that this is going on in their area, everybody just gets on with their own business and this puts a spanner in the works.
“But we’re not going to let it beat us.”
She explained that customers who have paid a deposit for a dress are not affected as they are kept in a different location as soon as an order is made.
Calderdale police said they are investigating and officers are seeking information about a dark coloured Land Rover that was spotted in the area and was seen driving towards Bradford.
