Witness appeal: Man assaults and tries to rob woman in Huddersfield

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted and attempted to rob a woman in a busy Huddersfield road on Good Friday.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman, was walking along Whitegate Road some time around 12.05pm to 12.15pm when she saw a man stood on a bend between some houses and a woodland area. As she walked past him, he grabbed her by the throat and tried to pull a chain she was wearing from around her neck. The man let go when other members of the public stopped to assist her.

The suspect is described as being of mixed race, aged in his early 20s, between 5 ft 6 ins and 5 ft 8 ins tall and of thin build. He was wearing blue jeans and a blue hooded top.

Detective Constable Nicola Keitch, of Kirklees District CID, said: “This offence happened during daylight hours on Good Friday when there was lots of people out and about. I would urge anyone with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation to call Kirklees CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
