Witness appeal: Man assaults taxi driver and tries to steal his car in Sowerby Bridge

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man assaulted a taxi driver and then tried to steal his vehicle in Sowerby Bridge last night (Monday).

A 22-year-old man from Pellon has been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened just before 9pm. He remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Chris Wood, from Halifax CID, said: “The incident occurred just before 9pm when the male fare attacked the driver as he was nearing his destination, which was a country track near to some houses off Brockwell Lane.

“After assaulting the taxi driver the male suspect attempted to steal the Vauxhall Zafira vehicle but was unable to do so.”
